Our Meals on Wheels program serves two meals, one home-cooked TV dinner and one bagged lunch, to each client Monday through Friday.
Those who are seniors, home-bound, have a disability and/or are food insecure.
We serve the Greater Hazelwood community of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Hazelwood is a low-income area with low supermarket access. In 2017, 15-22% of Hazelwood and 34% of Glen Hazel were considered food insecure versus the 13.1% considered to be so in Allegheny County.
According to the 2010 Hazelwood Census:
All Fishes & Loaves’ programs are provided free of charge thanks to generous contributions by our sponsors and donors. However, we accept and appreciate donations from our clients who can afford it, which helps us maintain our space and staff. For weekly consumers, $20 a week offsets the costs associated with preparing, packaging and serving food. But donations of any amount assist us greatly.
